Already questions will be asked of the squad Cork City manager Damien Richardson has assembled. Tonight they fell to a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Waterford United at the RSC.

Waterford, essentially starting with a squad assembled for the First Division stunned the 2005 eircom League champions on Friday night.

Almost as shocking as the result was the manner in which the goal arrived. Stephen Cooling's 69th minute corner kick caught Cork on the hop and eluded the attention of goalkeeper Michael Devine before ending up in the back of the net.

Waterford hadn't been outplayed to that point and had created a couple of good chances in the first period. Paul McCarthy saw his shot saved by Devine while Cooling fired narrowly off target.

Pushing for an equaliser Cork pressed Waterford back and goalkeeper Packie Holden had to be at his best to first push away a Roy O'Donovan shot and then a John O'Flynn chance in injury time.

Cork must now pick themselves up for Monday night's clash with St. Pats.

Waterford United : Holden, Flynn, Hedderman, Keely, Breen, Hayes, Cooling (Browne 90 +3), McCarthy, Sullivan (Kavanagh 74), Harte, Warren (Mulcahy 85).
Cork City : Devine, Horgan, Ryan, Murray, O'Brien, Gamble, O'Donovan, Cillian Lordan (Woods 70), Kearney, Behan (O'Flynn, 78 minutes), Kelly.
