Jason McCartney 69

Sligo Rovers made light of their behind the scenes troubles to stun Galway United at Terryland Park. The Bit O' Red ran out 2-0, spoiling the party for Galway on their return to the Premier Division.

A flowing team move saw Gary Curran fire Sligo in front after 52 minutes and Raf Cretaro - previously of Galway United fame - was a constant thorn in the Tribesmen's side.

Although he didn't get on the scoresheet, Cretaro did directly setup Sligo's second goal. His cross was powered home by Jason McCartney on 69 minutes to leave Galway with a mountain to climb.

Derek O'Brien's effort against the Sligo woodwork in stoppage time wouldn't have been much more than a consolation but Galway will have to regroup after a disappointing start to their season.

Galway United : Brinias, James (Foley 73), Charles, Nootimer, Reilly, Cooke, Lester, Murphy (Glynn 73), O'Brien; Moran (O'Flynn 62), Armstrong.
Sligo Rovers : Brush, Turner, Peers, McKenzie, Foy, Hughes, Curran, O'Grady, McCartney, Kudozovic, Cretaro.
