Athlone Town debuted in their stadium in Lissywoollen tonight with an emphatic 3-0 win although they left it late to get the job down against Kilkenny City.
Dave O'Dowd's two goals in the closing twelve minutes set the Midlands club on their way before Eric Lavine wrapped up the win in stoppage time.
Athlone appeared to be heading for a frustrating draw in their first game away from their old home at Saint Mel's Park. However, O'Dowd opened the scoring in the 79th minute as he finished well from Stevie Gavin's cross into the area.
O'Dowd struck again just three minutes later as he turned and fired home before Lavine turned the ball home deep into injury time to put the gloss on the win.
