Drogheda United's sluggish start to the season continued on Monday night as they played out a 0-0 draw with Derry City at the Brandywell in group 1 of the Setanta Sports Cup. The Drogs now have not scored in any of their three opening games of the season while Derry move level with Linfield at the top of the group.

Tony Grant should have opened the scoring for Drogheda before the half hour but slid his shot wide when one-on-one with Derry keeper Pat Jennings.

Derry's Kevin Deery hammered a shot against the Drogheda crossbar before the break.

Pat McCourt then clipped the Drogs woodwork on 70 minutes after Gareth McGlynn's cross had been only half cleared.

The home side again went close in the closing minutes when Jason Gavin almost turned Pat McCourt's cross past goalkeeper Dan Connor.
