Shamrock Rovers secured their first win since their return to top flight football with a 2-0 win over Longford Town at Tolka Park on Friday night. Robbie Kelleher, brought in from the now defunct Limerick FC, in pre-season scored both goals as Longford finished the game with just nine men.

Kelleher almost got in inside the opening ten minutes to open the scoring but Longford keeper Shay Kelly was quickly off his line to save at the Rovers player's feet.

The deadlock was broken on 34 minutes when Kelleher got on the end of Jamie Duffy's through ball before flicking home.

Longford hopes of a revival were dashed inside the opening ten minutes of the second half when Kelleher again found the net, this time from over twenty yards to make it 2-0.

The night got worse for Longford when John Martin was sent off on 78 minutes after picking up two bookings in quick succession. Damien Brennan followed him off in stoppage time at the end.
