Kildare County paid for not killing off tonight's game against Monaghan United at Station Road Newbridge. Having taken the lead after 14 minutes, Kildare had much the better of the play but Monaghan struck late to pick up their second point of the season.

Phillip Gorman slotted Kildare in front in the 14th minute after Gary Walsh played him in. Robbie Farrell looked like the danger man for Monaghan when they did manage to break but Kildare were on top.

Sean L'Estrange went very close to doubling Kildare's lead shortly after half time but his long range shot cannoned back off the crossbar. Padraig Amond turned the loose ball home but was ruled offside. Amond went close again moments later but narrowly missed the target.

Ultimately, Kildare were caught trying to kill the game off. Caught upfield as Monaghan broke from a corner, Brian Gannon raced in on goal but Kildare keeper Austin O'Neill dragged him down - giving the visitors a penalty.

Farrell stepped up and slotted home the 83rd minute spot kick to make it 1-1 and eventually leave each side with two draws from their opening two games.
