Cork City scored their first league goal of the season tonight and in the process recorded their first league win - beating UCD 1-0 at Belfield Park. Roy O'Donovan scored the only goal just before half-time.

Cork were on top from early on but failed to find the target. John O'Flynn missed from a good position after former UCD player Darragh Ryan had combined with O'Donovan to create the chance.

Conan Byrne might have done better on a rare UCD venture forward midway through the half. However, College keeper Darren Quigley needed to be on his toes and he saved from an O'Flynn volley.

O'Donovan was played in by Admir Softic as the first half raced towards the break. The Cork striker nipped in and finished coolly for his third goal of the week.

Cork keeper Mick Devine did his bit to retain the visitors' lead. He saved first from an Alan Mahon free kick and then from a Conor Sammon header.

Alan McNally wasted a glorious opportunity for an equaliser as he mis-hit his shot from a good position just after the hour. UCD were on top but failing to find their range.

O'Flynn could have wrapped up the win but missed with a close range header although UCD couldn't find an equaliser anyway.
