Shelbourne - still the reigning League of Ireland champions - are now just one point off the foot of the entire league. They suffered a second successive loss tonight as Dundalk won 2-0 at Tolka Park.

Dundalk were wasteful in front of goal in the first period and missed a number of good chances.

However, Phillip Hughes fired Dundalk in front after 52 minutes, nipping in on the end of John Flanagan's cross before turning the ball home.

Dundalk's hopes were dented when Ben Whelehan was sent off with twenty minutes remaining after a foul on Kyle Moran on the edge of the box. Shels couldn't make the extra man count though and Dundalk went on to wrap up the win.

Shaun Williams snuck in between a static Shels back line on 80 minutes to make it 2-0 and give Dundalk their third win from three league games.
