Shelbourne have tonight confirmed their withdrawal from the 2007/08 Champions League. Shelbourne already withdrew from the Setanta Sports Cup earlier in the year and currently sit twenty-second in the twenty-two team League of Ireland.

The news is likely to promote Derry City to the competition with Saint Patrick's Athletic taking Derry's place in the UEFA Cup.

Before Shels' announcement it was far from certain that they would be granted the European licence required to compete anyway.
