Shelbourne remain rooted to the bottom of the eircom League of Ireland after playing out a 1-1 draw with Kilkenny City at Buckley Park tonight.
Rattled by slipping bottom of the entire league last weekend, Shels started better and were ahead after 12 minutes. Mark Leech was only cleared to play on Thursday but he slotted home the opening goal for the visitors after Kilkenny had been sloppy in possession.
Kilkenny, one of the perennial strugglers in the league, were expected to fade and even more so when they had Andrew Polenczak sent off after just twenty two minutes.
However, great goalkeeping from John McGuinness and a battling performance kept them in the game. Michael Comerford grabbed the equaliser on 41 minutes as he got in on the end of Martin Tynan's cross.
Kilkenny upped their game in the second half but neither side could force the winner with Kilkenny's four points from four games leaving them in fifth place in the second tier.
