Finn Harps became the first team to win through to the second round of the League Cup when they edged past County Donegal rivals Fanad United at Finn Park tonight.

Harps spurned a first half chance to take the lead when Seamus Brown saw his penalty saved by visiting keeper Darren Nash in the 39th minute.

It took Harps until almost the hour to break the deadlock. Shaun Holmes slotted home his first goal for Harps to put them ahead.

Conor Gethins wrapped up the win when he superbly lobbed home ten minutes from the end, one of a number of chances the substitute carved out in the closing moments.
