Galway United battled back against First Division Monaghan United at Kingspan Century Park in tonight's eircom League of Ireland Cup game. The Tribesmen ran out 4-2 winners after twice trailing in the first period.
Willie Doyle volleyed Monaghan in front after only seven minutes but Alan Murphy, a League Cup winner with Derry, levelled matters just six minutes later.
Doyle found the net again as he turned the ball home on 28 minutes, a lead Monaghan retained until just after half time.
Wesley Charles scored in the second minute of the second half though to level matters. Charles headed home his first Galway goal as he connected with John Lester's free kick.
Lester himself put Galway ahead - against one of his former clubs - just after the hour as his deflected free kick found the net. Galway secured their place in the second round when Barry Moran's shot squirmed home just one minute later.
