UCD emphatically ended their win-less start to the 2007 season with a 3-0 win over Waterford United at Belfield Park on Friday evening. Conan Byrne and Paul Byrne with two saw off the Blues at the Dublin venue.
The alert Matt Gregg cut out an early Waterford attack and if Paul McCarthy had got in, the night's events may have swung in the visitors' favour.
UCD took the lead after 25 minutes when Conan Byrne headed in after his acrobatic initial effort had been pushed behind for the Bogdan Opera corner kick which eventually produced the goal.
Paul Byrne slipped the ball past goalkeeper Dean Delaney just six minutes later to make it 2-0 as a good UCD passing movement gained reward.
Waterford had no answer in the second period before UCD finally killed the game off two minutes from time as Paul Byrne lashed home an amazing long range effort,
