Shane Robinson scored the only goal early on as Drogheda United ground out a 1-0 win over Longford Town at Flancare Park this evening, keeping Drogheda within range of leaders St. Pats.

The ninth minute was very forgettable for Longford. Having had appeals for an apparent handball in the Drogs box turned down, the visitors broke and snatched what proved to be the only goal of the game. Paul Keegan picked out Robinson who fired home a superb lob from well outside the Longford box.

Shay Kelly did well in the Longford goal later when Robinson tried to repeat the feat while Gary Deegan narrowly missed the Drogs goal from Dave Mooney's cross.

Kevin Doherty's header after the hour went close but stand in Drogs keeper Mikko Vilmunen did well to push it away.

Deegan and David Freeman both went close as time ticket by and an under-par Drogheda held on for all three points.
