Shelbourne 1
Mark Leech 76
Athlone Town 0
Tolka Park
Shelbourne picked up their first win since lifting the eircom League title last November. Mark Leech struck the only goal late in the game to give Shels all three points in their home game with Athlone Town at Tolka Park on Friday night.
Leech almost opened the scoring midway through the first half but fired narrowly wide with a free kick. Danny O'Leary did well in the Athlone goal to turn away James Chambers' shot before the break.
Shels improved as the game wore on and Leech powered the Dublin club in front 15 minutes from the end as he turned home after John Brophy's ball back across the face of goal.
Athlone had no response and Shels might even have added another before the end.
