UCD advanced to the second round of the eircom League of Ireland Cup on Monday night and an away game with Saint Patrick's Athletic. The College advanced 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out against Kildare County following a poor 120 minutes which produced no goals.
UCD keeper Darren Quigley saved two of the Kildare spot kicks in the shoot out.
Neither side created a whole lot in two hours of football with a penalty shoot-out looking likely from early on.
When the spot kick contest arrived, Quigley saved kicks from Sean Lestrange and Thomas Morgan while four of the five College kicks were converted successfully.
Kildare County : Flynn, Osbourne, Donnelly (Lestrange 34), McDermott, Clancy, M Rigney, A Byrne, McCrossan, Kavanagh (Morgan 90), Robinson, Hanaphy (Mahon 63).
