Alan Murphy struck the only goal of the game at the Carlisle Grounds to give Galway United their first win of the season against Bray Wanderers. The win lifts Galway to within one point of Bray in the table.
Galway weathered an early Bray attack which had seen goalkeeper and former Bray player Gary Rogers save from Clive Delaney only to see the ball fall invitingly for Chris Deans. The onrushing Bray player missed the target though
The deadlock was broken on 27 minutes when Ciaran Foley found Murphy on the edge of the box. The striker turned and fired home past the despairing grasp of home keeper Chris O'Connor to make it 1-0.
Bray's hopes of a fightback all but ended when Stephen Gough picked up his second booking of the game on 54 minutes to leave the home side a man down as they chased the game.
Alan Cawley's shot against the Galway crossbar was as close as Bray got to equalising.
