Sligo Rovers and Waterford United played out a 1-1 draw at the Showgrounds in Sligo tonight. Waterford will be the happier with the point having played for almost an hour with just ten men.
Sligo's new boss Paul Cook got the best possible start when Fahrudin Kudozovic put them ahead after just three minutes. The Sligo man got in on the end of a nice move involving Jason McCartney and Choice Aisien to hammer the ball to the net.
A foul on Keith Foy saw Ray Scully pick up his second booking and a red card after only 35 minutes of the contest leaving Waterford in more trouble.
Rovers couldn't add to their early goal though and Jamie McKenzie netted a second own goal in two games when he could only divert the ball past Richard Brush after the keeper had initially blocked from Kenny Browne.
A late Sligo surge couldn't find a way past Waterford keeper Dean Delaney. The former Shelbourne keeper pulled off a couple of good saves in the dying minutes to thwart Rafael Cretaro, Kudozovic and Foy.
The point does little for either side's standings but the Blues will be much the happier with the result given the circumstances and the fact that it brings a six game losing streak to an end.
