Wexford Youths and Shelbourne played out a 1-1 draw in the first game to be played under lights at the Wexford Youths football complex.

Alan Murphy had put Shels in front just before half-time but an own-goal from Aidan Collins in the closing twenty minutes levelled the game.

Shane Dunphy in the Wexford goal had to be on top form to deny Darren McKenna as Shels started better. Murphy then crashed a header against the post before the deadlock was broken on the stroke of half-time.

The former Longford Town skipper took possession some distance from goal but let fly with a tremendous strike which eluded the grasp of Dunphy.

Wexford improved after the break and upped the pressure on the defending eircom League champions.

It finally paid off in the 75th minute when Richie Fitzgerald's cross was turned into his own net by Collins.

Wexford held on against a late Shels revival to ensure a draw.
