Drogheda United paid the price for fielding a team comprised totally of youth players at the club. The Drogs were beaten 3-0 by Shamrock Rovers in the second round of the eircom League Cup at United Park tonight.

Former Drog Andy Myler netted two of Rovers' three goals to send them into the last eight as Drogheda fielded a team consisting mostly of under-17 players.

Myler headed the Hoops in front after half an hour. Cian Byrne did well in the Drogs goal, showing the experience he has picked up recently while being part of the Drogs senior matchday squad.

David Cassidy had only been on the pitch a matter of minutes when he fired Rovers two ahead on 36 minutes.

Some brave battling from the Drogs youngsters was eventually beaten when Myler grabbed his second of the night on 68 minutes to put the tie beyond doubt.
