Sligo Rovers stunned an out of sorts Cork City at the Showgrounds tonight, running out 4-1 winners in the Premier Division of the eircom League of Ireland.

Going into the game Cork were the massive favourites and expected to climb back up to third in the table but Sligo gave their performance of the season so far to tear apart the visitors and move to within three points of them in the table.

Matthew Judge opened the scoring after 36 minutes as he slotted home from Chris Turner's cross after Turner had sliced through Cork's defence.

Fahrudin Kuduzovic chased in another Turner through ball just before have time but was hauled down by Cork goalkeeper Mick Devine. Turner stepped up and slotted home the penalty to make it 2-0 at the break.

Turner got in again within two minutes of the restart to move the scoreline from surprising to shocking.

Sligo could have added another goal or two before Judge did make it 4-0 on 72 minutes. After stealing possession, he surged through Cork's dishevelled defence before slotting home to cap a wonderful solo effort.

City grabbed a goal back in the final minute when Billy Woods headed in at the back post but on a miserable night for Damien Richardson's side, nothing could be classed as a consolation.

The win is Paul Cook's first since taking charge of the Bit O' Red while Cork weren't able to build after inflicting a first league defeat on St. Pats last week.
