Kildare County survived falling a goal behind and having a man sent off to clinch a 1-1 draw with Shelbourne at Station Road, Newbridge tonight. The result saw Kildare fail to take their chance to move third while Shels still only have one win to show for ten league games.

Former Kildare player Darren McKenna headed Shels in front on the stroke of half-time as he connected with Kieran Harte's corner kick.

Kildare were reduced to ten men in the 49th minute when Alan Byrne was shown a straight red card after an incident off the ball.

However, just one minute later Alan McDermott finished well from Phillip Byrne's knock down to make it 1-1.

Phillp Gorman might have wrapped up a home win in the closing moments but missed the target when sent clear on the Shels goal.
