Cork City survived a nervous finish to tonight's home game against Bohemians to secure a 2-1 win and retake third place ahead of the Dublin club in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland.
The defeat is just Bohs second of the season and the first time they have conceded more than one goal in a game this year.
It might have turned out differently had Darren Mansaram's early well struck shot not come back off the Cork post before rolling to safety.
From there, Cork hit the front on 27 minutes as John O'Flynn netted his first league goal of the year. The striker blasted past Bohs keeper Brian Murphy after an excellent through ball from Liam Kearney sent him on his way.
Bohs were left reeling just two minutes later when Roy O'Donovan scored his thirteenth goal of 2007 - his eighth in the league. Kearney was again involved in the build-up before O'Donovan took the ball past Jason McGuinness and fired past Murphy.
O'Donovan had been surprisingly overlooked by Irish manager Steve Staunton for next week's tour of the United States and the B international confirmed after the game that he was disappointed by the decision and wondered what more he needed to do to earn a call-up.
Bohs had their moments in the second half with Kevin Hunt forcing a tip-over from Michael Devine. The Cork keeper pulled off a magnificent save in the closing ten minutes to tip over Dessie Byrne's driven free kick.
Cork sat deeper and deeper until Bohs grabbed a goal back on 87 minutes when McGuinness got in to halve the deficit. However, the lateness of the goal left equalising difficult.
McGuinness went close again right at the death but narrowly missed the target with a header.
