Derry City's Greg O'Halloran saw red late on as Longford Town and the Candystripes played out a 0-0 draw at Flancare Park, Longford in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland tonight.
The draw gets Longford back on the board with regards to points - tonight's draw representing the only point they currently have. Derry though continue to flounder although a draw lifts them up to fifth in the table.
It was more of the usual for Derry as they frustrated their support. Kevin McHugh missed the target inside the opening five minutes after being played in one-on-one with Longford keeper Mick Dempsey.
Longford though had more possession in the first period but couldn't make it count against Pat Fenlon's side although the visitors did create the best of the chances.
Sean Hargan should have put Derry ahead on the half-hour but missed from close range after pouncing on Longford's struggling offside trap. Pat Sullivan got back to pip McHugh of possession as he prepared to fire home just before the break.
A tame second half saw little action in front of either goal but a red card popped up as the only real noteworthy event. O'Halloran picked up his second booking of the game just over ten minutes from the end to send him to an early bath.
Ruadhri Higgins might have wrapped up an away win in the final minute but headed tamely at the Longford goal.
