Drogheda United got back to winning ways after seeing two consecutive defeats knock them out of the League of Ireland's top two last week. The Drogs ran out 2-0 winners over Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds tonight.
Brian Shelley gave Drogheda the perfect start to calm any of their nerves as he headed home inside the opening three minutes.
A short corner routine undid the home defence as Shelley nipped in to head home via the upright.
Eamon Zayed struck a post as Drogheda kept the temp up. Fahrudin Kuduzovic forced a save from Drogheda keeper Miko Vilmunen with a free kick at the other end.
Drogheda didn't eventually wrap up their win until seven minutes from the end when Shane Robinson slotted home from the penalty spot after the Sligo keeper Tomas Arcaba had bundled him over in the area.
Drogheda move back up to second place in the table but it's becoming mighty crowded up there now.
