Galway United heaped more misery on bottom side Longford Town by beating the midlanders 3-0 at Flancare Park tonight.

Stephen O'Flynn's goal from the penalty spot set the tone for the night as Longford slipped further adrift with then second from bottom Galway securing a much needed win.

Derek O'Brien had been brought down by Damien Brennan for the spot kick and O'Brien continued to torment the home side. He played in Derek Glynn before the twentieth minute to get in and slot home Galway's second.

Longford were much improved in the second half and carved out a number of good chances. Kevin Doherty tested the woodwork a couple of times and Galway keeper Gary Rogers was kept busy by Longford's front line.

Glynn wrapped up the win in the closing 15 minutes as he netted his second of the night. A quick counter attack saw Glynn win possession in midfield before running on and finishing superbly past Mick Dempsey.
