Paul Byrne 36 pen, 74
Conan Byrne 45
UCD ended Waterford United's recent unbeaten run of five games and secured their first win in seven league games with a 3-1 win at the RSC tonight.
Waterford had started the night well enough, taking the lead after 11 minutes. Paul McCarthy fired the Blues in front after Shane Harte had crossed.
A foul on Shane McFaul ten minutes before half-time gave UCD the chance to level. Paul Byrne slotted home from the spot to make it 1-1. A foul on Conan Byrne in the area gave UCD another spot kick on the stroke of half-time.
Paul Byrne again stepped up but this time saw goalkeeper Dean Delaney save. However, Conan Byrne was on hand and flicked home the loose ball to give the Students the half-time lead.
Paul Byrne grabbed his second of the night to give UCD an unassailable two goal lead 15 minutes from the end. Paul Byrne's goal came as he headed home after Delaney had parried Conan Byrne's initial shot.
The win lifts UCD into the top half of the table as the league gets set for two weeks without games.
