League of Ireland leaders Saint Patrick's Athletic made light work of non-league side Phoenix FC in what was technically an away game at Richmond Park tonight. The Saints eventually ran out 4-0 winners.
Former Monaghan United goalkeeper Vladimir Munteanu did well in the early going to keep the Saints at bay as the league leaders looked set to run riot.
The deadlock was broken after 15 minutes when Mark Quigley combined with Michael Foley before slotting home. Munteanu again did well to keep the Saints and in particular Anthony Murphy out before the break.
Phoenix made a battle of it in the second half but typical of a non league side trailing to a top side, they were always going to struggle to get a goal.
Eventually the Saints took them apart in the closing twenty minutes with first Darragh Maguire netting from close to goal on 71 minutes. Alan Kirby made it 3-0 with his sixth goal of the campaign five minutes from the edge.
Kevin Cornwall fired in his first senior goal for the Saints as he found the net in the final minute to make it 4-0.
