FAI Cup 2nd Round

Longford Town 1

David Mooney 66 pen

Celbridge Town 0

Flancare Park

Longford Town winners of the FAI Cup in 2003 and 2004 negotiated a tougher than expected second round tie to reach the third round of this year's FAI Cup. A Dave Mooney penalty midway through the second half proved decisive as Longford beat Celbridge Town 1-0 at Flancare Park.

David Freeman was brought down on 65 minutes to give Longford their opportunity from the penalty spot and Mooney slotted home from the spot.

Earlier in the game non-league Celbridge had worried League of Ireland Premier Division side Longford. The County Kildare side had gone close on a couple of occasions.

Paul Drew forced a good save from goalkeeper Michael Dempsey before hitting the post just after the hour.

Longford's Mark Rutherford had himself hit the woodwork in the early going.

Longford finished the game with ten men after Daire Doyle was sent off after picking up his second booking of the night.

Longford Town : Dempsey, Martin, O'Riordan, Prunty, Brennan, Doyle, Baker, Deegan, Rutherford, Mooney, Freeman.
Celbridge Town : Sherry, King, Hudson, Ryan, Kenneally (D Hyland 75), Nolan, B Hyland (Gorman 77), Drew, Webb, Grennan, Harding (Fox 87).
