FAI Cup 2nd Round

Kildare County 0

Kilkenny City 1

Alan McDermott 82(og)

Station Road

Kilkenny City won the all First Division encounter at Station Road, Newbridge to claim a place in the last sixteen of this year's FAI Cup. An own-goal in the closing ten minutes was enough for the Cats to claim a 1-0 win over Kildare County.

The only goal in a poor game arrived eight minutes from the end as Martin Tynan knocked Eoghan O'Shea's cross back across the face of the Kildare goal. Home keeper Austin O'Neill could only push the loose ball against defender Alan McDermott with the ball bouncing back past the keeper and proving decisive.

Kilkenny's Ted O'Connor had earlier hit the woodwork although chances were few and far between on the night.
