Dunphy hat-trick sets Bray up for seven goal win

Paul Dunphy scored a hat-trick as Bray Wanderers romped past non-league Dublin club Saint Mochtas to reach the third round of the FAI Cup. A club record equalling 7-0 win sent two time FAI Cup winners Bray into the last sixteen of the competition at the expense of the club from Clonsilla.

The non-league side got off to the worst possible side at the Carlisle Grounds as they fell behind inside the opening couple of minutes when Stefan Buttner guided the ball into his own net under pressure from an Alan Cawley corner kick.

Dunphy struck his first of the day to make it 2-0 on 17 minutes as he fired home at the back post. Colm Tresson then struck on 20 minutes to make it 3-0 as a rout become possible. Cawley was again the danger man as he set up the veteran Tresson

Bray pressure saw the Seagulls go in five ahead at the break as Dunphy netted again after 27 and 42 minutes.

With Bray's 7-0 League of Ireland win over Cobh in 1997 standing as a target, Bray made it 6-0 just three minutes into the second half. John Broderick, a half-time introduction, slotted home.

Gary McCabe made it seven in the 76th minute as Bray eased off and ultimately failed to break their own record.
