Waterford United finished the job against Tolka Rovers although for a brief moment it looked as though the non-league side would frustrate the League of Ireland Premier Division side just like they did on Friday night.
Ultimately, all five goals at the RSC came in the first half with the Blues running out 4-1 winners.
Shane Harte had given Waterford the perfect start with a goal after only a couple of minutes as he finished from Robert Brosnan's cross. However, Darren Doyle levelled for the visitors ten minutes later after Ray Whelehan played him in and delicately finished past Dean Delaney.
Robert Brosnan restored Waterford's lead on 14 minutes after nipping in on the end of Vinny Sullivan's cross to finish and Paul McCarthy blasted home to make it 3-1 just two minutes after that.
Brosnan's close range finish wrapped up the win on 34 minutes to kill off the challenge of the non league side as he got in on the end of Kenny Browne's cross.
Torrential rain appeared to put the game in jeopardy but Chris Barbour went close to grabbing a goal back shortly after half-time.
Waterford though could have added to their tally before the end but they will at least be relieved to have navigated a route past Tolka Rovers into the last sixteen.
