After suffering a stunning 4-0 defeat at the hands of Monaghan on Friday night, Shelbourne rebuilt some pride tonight as they battled to a 2-2 draw with Cobh Ramblers at Tolka Park.
Cobh went into the game on the back of becoming the first team to beat First Division leaders Dundalk in league action. As things turned out, a win tonight would have sent Cobh top of the division.
Ramblers had the perfect, if slightly fortunate, start when Shels' Aaron McEniff put the ball into his own net inside the first minute, and indeed inside the opening seconds of action with Gareth Cambridge's cross doing the damage.
Shels showed no signs of repeating Friday's capitulation and drew level in the 11th minute when Mark Leech turned home from James Chambers' cross.
Cobh regained their lead just after the hour, punishing Shels after they failed to convert after plenty of possession and pressure. Graham Cummins got the header to put the promotion chasing Cobh in front.
One of only two players still at the club from last season's squad, Shelbourne's Chambers made it 2-2 on 75 minutes as he slotted home from the penalty spot after Davitt Walsh had been brought down in the box.
Shelbourne : Hussey, O'Reilly, Gartland, Rafferty, McEniff, Harte, Murphy, Chambers, Lacey, Leech, Walsh.
Cobh Ramblers : Deasy, Carey, Guthrie, Murray, Meade, Cambridge, Barrett, Kearney, Deady (McCarthy 25), Cummins, O'Neill.
