Wexford Youths picked up their first win in twelve games to climb up to seventh in the First Division of the eircom League of Ireland. Going into the game level on points with Kilkenny City at the bottom of the league, Wexford secured a 1-0 win shrouded in controversy at Buckley Park tonight.

Kilkenny felt nothing was going their way after being reduced to ten men after only 22 minutes when Ted O'Connor was sent off. Then, a controversial penalty was awarded to the visitors after referee Marc Gough ruled that Paraig Fogarty had fouled in the area.

Conor Sinnott made no mistake with the 37th minute penalty kick and it proved to be the only goal in the game.

Both sides finished the game with ten men after Wexford's Stuart Lawlor was sent off after an off the ball incident ten minutes into the second half.

Kilkenny couldn't get themselves back into the game though and now sit two points adrift at the bottom of the league.
