Dundalk 0
Limerick 37 0
Oriel Park
Dundalk failed to bounce back from Saturday's first defeat of the season at the hands of Cobh as they played out a 0-0 draw with Limerick 37 at Oriel Park. However, Cobh's slip-up in Dublin preserves Dundalk's lead at the top of the First Division.
Paul Smyth had the best of the chances for the home side but despite creating less, Limerick might well have snatched a win which could have helped their own promotion hopes.
Limerick keeper David Ryan saved well with his legs to deny Smyth in the early going. Despite plenty of possession, Dundalk didn't do a whole lot in the final third of the pitch although Smyth narrowly missed the target just after half-time.
Kevin Waters might have fired Limerick ahead before the hour but he blazed off target with the goal at his mercy. Dundalk keeper Chris Bennion saved well from Peter McCarthy soon after as the game fizzled out into a scoreless draw.
The result means that none of the top four teams in the First Division of the eircom League won in this midweek programme with Finn Harps profiting and inserting themselves into the top four now.
