Athlone Town and Monaghan United played out a scoreless draw at the Athlone Town stadium in Lissywoollen tonight. Athlone's recent indifferent form has now seen them slip from fourth place to fifth while Monaghan drop to eighth.
A well organised Monaghan defence frustrated the home side as they struggled to break through.
Colin Fortune forced a save from a header but it was one of the few efforts on target in the entire ninety minutes.
In the second period, David O'Dowd headed over from a good position with a stalemate seeming inevitable.
