Bray Wanderers put some breathing space between themselves and the relegation play-off spot on Sunday afternoon as they won 2-1 against Waterford United at the Carlisle Grounds. The win moves Bray up one place to ninth and puts six points between them and Waterford.
Veteran Stephen Fox headed Bray in front after only six minutes as he got free and connected with Alan Cawley's corner kick.
Cawley went close soon after with a well struck free kick which brought the best out of goalkeeper Dean Delaney.
Waterford had a couple of chances but Bray could have been two up at the break. Paul Caffrey hammered a volley against the Waterford crossbar before Andrei Georgescu was thwarted in his attempts to turn home the rebound.
Georgescu did make it 2-0 on 52 minutes. Having narrowly missed seconds earlier, he nipped in on the end of Gary McCabe's defence splitting past before slotting home.
Bray's inability to kill the game off almost cost them in the latter stages. Vinny Sullivan grabbed a goal back for Waterford with just under twenty minutes remaining. He slotted home after goalkeeper Steve Williams had parried Daryl Kavanagh's initial shot.
However, Bray went on to win although they again could have killed the game off before the final whistle.
