Cork City face a tough task next week on their visit to Sweden. City drew tonight's Intertoto Cup 2nd Round - 1st Leg tie 1-1 with Hammarby at Turner's Cross.
Cork started better against the Swedish side and took the lead after just ten minutes when Roy O'Donovan turned home a loose ball after Colin Healy's magnificent work down the wing saw the visiting keeper Erland Hellstrom touch the ball away from goal. O'Donovan was on hand to slot home his seventeenth goal of the year and give the home side the perfect start.
The visitors came more into the game as it progressed. They levelled just before the hour as a free kick wrong footed the Cork defence and after a cruel touch off Healy, Hammarby were level. Paulinho headed on a Louay Chonko free kick and Healy could do nothing but watch as the ball hit him and flew past the wrong footed Michael Devine.
Hammarby almost snatched a win with a long range shot deep in stoppage time although Devine turned it behind.
The sides go into next Saturday's second leg level at 1-1 although Cork face a Premier Division trip to Galway before that.
