Intertoto Cup 2nd Round

Hammarby 1

Petter Andersson 53

Cork City 0

Rasunda Stadium, Stockholm

Cork City fell to a 1-0 defeat in Stockholm against Hammarby today. That result sent the Swedish team into the third round of the Intertoto Cup after a 2-1 aggregate win.

Cork rode their luck in the first half as Petter Andersson put a shot on the roof of Michael Devine's net. Paulinho then hit a post before the break as Cork struggled to create.

The deadlock was broken just inside the second half as Andersson fired past Devine.

The goal finally provoked a reaction from Damien Richardson's side. Sean Kelly missed the target from a good position as he got in on the end of Liam Kearney's cross on the hour.

Roy O'Donovan's mis-hit shot was saved as Cork's European run came to an end.

The game had been overshadowed by an incident which saw goalkeeper Michael Devine struck by an object thrown from the home crowd.
