Alan Cawley's low free kick past the Galway United wall gave Bray Wanderers a 1-0 win at Terryland Park in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland tonight. The result leaves Galway still looking for their first home win in 2007 while Bray climb ahead of UCD to go level on points with Derry City.
Cawley's shot crept past the wall and goalkeeper Gary Rogers just before the hour to claim an important win for Bray.
Bray were hit by injuries to two of their strikers during the game. Andrei Georgescu went off injured early in the first half and his replacement Paul Dunphy went off with a suspected broken wrist in the second.
Pat Kavanagh had forced a save from Rogers in the early going after combining with Cawley and Dunphy also forced a save with a decent shot.
After the goal, Galway went in search of an equaliser and Bray keeper Steve Williams was alert and off his line to cut out as Derek Glynn chased in on Rogers' long clearance forward.
John Lester might have grabbed a late equaliser but just missed the target with a volley from Barry Moran's cross.
