Limerick 37 took apart Athlone Town at Jackman Park in the First Division of the League of Ireland tonight. They wrapped up the win before half-time to move onto the fitting points total of 37.
Wayne Colbert, Kevin Waters and former Athlone player Padraig Moran scored inside the first half hour to all but wrap up a convincing win that early.
Colbert opened the scoring after 11 minutes following a team move involving build-up play from Waters and Moran. Waters then slotted home from a 20th minute penalty.
Moran got in on 25 minutes to make it 3-0 as he converted from Derek McCarthy's cross.
Dave O'Dowd salvaged a goal for Athlone just after half-time as the home defence were punished for a poorly executed offside trap.
However, Limerick never looked in much trouble and Robbie Kelleher made it 4-1 after a defensive mix-up from Athlone just a couple of minutes before the end. The win maintains Limerick's promotion hopes.
