Mid table sides Kildare County and Monaghan United played out a 1-1 draw in Newbridge on Saturday night.

Kildare started better and might well have been ahead at half-time. However, Philip Gorman floated a deft chip over in the early going and Conor McDonald missed the target with a header from close range.

Willie Doyle had hit a stunning opening goal to give Monaghan the lead just after the hour. He lashed home a superb volley after controlling Robbie Farrell's cross on his chest.

Monaghan looked set for a win until Gorman headed Kildare level six minutes from the end as he connected with Eoin Kavanagh's set-piece and headed home from close range.

Kildare almost snatched a winner at the end but goalkeeper Alvin Rouse saved well to keep out a deflected Barry Clancy shot.
