Finn Harps extended their recent amazing run of form and collected some reward too tonight as they saw off Limerick 37 at Jackman Park. Harps' ninth win in eleven games elevates them above Limerick to third and now to within seven points of leaders Dundalk.
Conor Gethins opened the scoring after 24 minutes and his thirteenth goal of the season was unlucky for Limerick. Goalkeeper Dave Ryan attempted to clear a long through ball but only hit the onrushing Gethins, whose touch took it beyond the keeper and into the back of the Limerick net.
Kevin Waters headed over from a good position as Limerick went in search of their equaliser but Declan Divin might well have made it 2-0 as he narrowly missed the target at the other end from a good position.
Declan Boyle didn't miss in the last minute of the first half as he rose to head in at the back post from a Gethins corner kick.
Any hopes of a home revival were dashed less than ten minutes into the second half when Divin combined with Gethins before slotting home to make it 3-0.
Ross Cosgrave hit a post before Limerick eventually salvaged a consolation goal from Tommy Barrett in the final minute. Barrett headed in from Padraig Moran's cross to deny Harps a tenth clean sheet in eleven games.
