Turner's Cross

Cork City avoided any hint of an FAI Cup upset at Turner's Cross tonight when they ran out 5-1 winners over the League of Ireland's bottom side Kilkenny City.

With Roy O'Donovan's departure still limiting Cork's options in an attacking sense, John O'Flynn picked a good time to show signs of his old top quality self.

Brian O'Callghan opened the scoring when he tapped home after 15 minutes and Leon McSweeney made it 2-0 after O'Flynn's shot came back off the Kilkenny goalkeeper Jim McDonnell. O'Callaghan had tapped in after Dan Murray headed Gareth Farrelly's free kick back across goal.

Colin Healy struck on 21 minutes to make it 3-0 and leave the First Division side reeling. Healy tapped in after another O'Flynn shot had created the chance as Cork were again first to a loose ball.

To their credit, Kilkenny didn't simply sit back and look to limit Cork to a 3-0 score-line. John MacNicholas got a goal back for them just after the half hour after breaking through the home defence and firing home.

There were no further goals until the closing twenty minutes when O'Flynn helped himself to a couple. He made it 4-1 with a fine shot to the roof on 73 minutes and scored a fifth on 80 minutes as he tapped home from McSweeney's pass.
