Bohemians again struggled to see off the challenge of a team they were expected to easily beat but Glen Crowe's goal just over ten minutes from the end saw the Gypsies claim an FAI Cup quarter-final place at the expense of Malahide United today.
Malahide had gone close early on before Crowe struck for the winner on 79 minutes.
Despite Bohs dominating the early going, Michael Wright almost opened the scoring after twenty minutes after a great move which was only ended by a block from Owen Heary. Malahide looked like forcing the ball home from the resulting corner but Mark Rossiter booted clear off the line.
Bohs also went close at the wind-swept north Dublin venue before they eventually wrapped up the win. The visitors also handed Chris Turner his first appearance in a Bohs shirt when he arrived as a replacement for Rossiter after half-time.
With just over ten minutes remaining, former Irish international Crowe stole in at the front post to slot home at the Irish senior team's training ground of Gannon Park. Crowe nipped in to turn home from Conor Powell's cross after good work down the left wing.
Stephen Cashin did superbly in the home goal to deny Bohs a second before the end as he saved first from Darren Mansaram and then reacted quickly to deny Ryan McCann's follow-up volley.
Bohs now go into the draw for the quarter-finals which looks like being an all-star line-up with Cork City, Derry City, Longford Town, Saint Patrick's Athletic and UCD already through too.
Malahide United : Cashin, McCormack, Lawler, Murtagh, Trainor, Wright, Shehabadeen (Murphy 85), Doyle, Logan, Scully, Griffin (Ivory 78).
Bohemians : Murphy, O Heary, McGuinness, Pooley, Powell, McCann, Hunt, Rossiter (Turner 46), Kelly (Harkin 73), Crowe, Fenn (Mansaram 61).
