Cork City eventually ran out easy 3-0 winners against Munster rivals Waterford United at the RSC on Friday night to stay in touch with the leading sides in the top half of the League of Ireland Premier Division. Another defeat though is bad news for Waterford who remain in the relegation play-off place and three points behind Bray Wanderers.

A lacklustre first half was finally brightened just before the break as Cork City snatched the lead. Gareth Farrelly hit the opening goal on forty minutes as he slipped past the challenge of Robbie Hedderman and fired home a superb left footed shot to give the visitors the lead.

Having taken the lead, Cork went 2-0 up just after half-time. Colin Healy found Dan Murray with a free kick and the Cork skipper took advantage of some poor defending to tap in.

Willie John Kiely missed the target from a good position just after the hour and Waterford's challenge began to fade.

The Blues were showing signs of tiredness following their recent FAI Cup exertions and it wasn't a huge surprise that the visitors grabbed a third before the end.

Joe Gamble headed in on 86 minutes from Leon McSweeney's cross to wrap up a 3-0 win.
