Longford Town moved to within four points of second from bottom Waterford United and plunged Saint Patrick's Athletic deeper into crisis at Flancare Park tonight.
The Town came from a goal down to win 2-1 - their fourth win in five league games - and extend the Saints run to five league games without a win.
Early Saints pressure paid off after fifteen minutes when Mark Quigley fired in his twelfth league goal of the season as he connected with Billy Gibson's driven cross.
The visitors had brought good saves from home keeper Shay Kelly before eventually going ahead with the former Saints keeper saving from Glen Fitzpatrick amongst others.
Former Longford player Stephen Paisley was penalised less than ten minutes after the opening goal for a foul on John Reilly and Longford had the chance to level from the spot. Dave Mooney slotted home his twelfth league goal of the season to level matters up.
The winner came midway through the second half when Damien Brennan forced the ball home from close range. Jamie Duffy's free kick had created the chance as Kevin Doherty and Mark Rutherford combined to lay the ball into Brennan's path.
Following tonight's game the Saints are now ten points adrift of league leaders Drogheda United in fourth place and would slip to fourth if Cork City won both of their games in hand.
