Cobh Ramblers were held by Shelbourne at Saint Colman's Park tonight to deny them the chance of opening up a five point lead at the top of the First Division of the League of Ireland.

Anthony Flood had put Shels ahead on 22 minutes but their lead lasted less than ten minutes as Davin O'Neill slotted home from the penalty spot.

Flood headed Shels in front after 22 minutes as he connected with Glen Lacey's tempting cross.

A foul in the area on John Kearney gave Cobh the chance to level less than ten minutes later and Davin O'Neill slotted home from the penalty spot for his ninth goal of the season.

Michael Mulconry went close a couple of times after the break as Cobh looked to extend their lead at the top of the division.

Kevin Murray saw a header hit the Shels crossbar before the visiting defence somehow eventually cleared.

Shelbourne's Alan Reilly didn't stick around too long and managed to get himself booked twice in the ten minutes he spent on the pitch as substitute leaving Shels a man down for the closing ten or so minutes.

Ramblers couldn't take advantage of their numerical advantage though and sit three points clear of second placed Finn Harps.
