Cobh Ramblers at least consolidated their lead at the top of the First Division of the League of Ireland with a 4-0 win over Monaghan United at Kingspan Century Park.
Two goals in each half helped Cobh to an emphatic win to extend their unbeaten league run to twenty-four games and confirm that they will have at least a two point lead at the top of the table before the night is out.
Monaghan were fortunate to keep Cobh out until almost the half hour, thanks mainly to a fine performance from goalkeeper Alvin Rouse. Graham Cummins broke the deadlock on 29 minutes after earlier being one of a number of Cobh players denied by Rouse.
Cummins got in to turn the ball home from Michael Mulconry's cut back. Cobh went on score a second before the break. Taken down in the box by Paul Whelan, Davin O'Neill stepped up to slot home the resulting penalty.
Content with their two goal lead, Cobh were not over adventurous in the second period but did make it 3-0 on 82 minutes as O'Neill claimed his second of the night. O'Neill's shot was deemed to have crossed the line incensing the home side to make it 3-0.
Ken Coleman grabbed a fourth for Cobh right at the end which was tough on Rouse given his heroics in the game.
