Referee : Padraig Sutton
Former Finn Harps player Ian Rossiter came back to haunt his old club as Athlone Town secured a shock 1-0 win over the promotion chasing County Donegal side in Athlone tonight.
After going fourteen league games unbeaten, Harps were looking to at least keep the pressure on leaders Cobh Ramblers but instead have actually fallen behind Dundalk this weekend with Ramblers now four points clear of Dundalk at the top of the table.
Although Harps started better, Athlone came closest to scoring in the first half as Jonathan Minnock blocked Eric Lavine's goal-bound shot onto the crossbar.
Both goalkeepers made good saves in the second half to keep the scores level. Harps James Gallagher saved from Istvan Lakatos while Ciaran Kelly denied Conor Gethins as Harps came close to snatching the lead.
Rossiter hit the only goal of the game seven minutes from the end to secure just Athlone's second win in twelve league games. The former Harps man blasted home from long range after Davy Byrne had laid the ball into his path.
